Moving text in a Word document which contains EndNote references

If you want to move sections of text in a Word document that has EndNote references in it you need to make sure that you unformat the EndNote citations first, otherwise your references may get out of order. (Once you have re-ordered the document you can then reformat the references.)

  • Click on the Unformat ciatation(s) icon in the EndNote toolbar in Word
  • Temporary citations will be created and the list of references at the end of the document will disappear
  • Move the text using the cut and paste function as usual
  • Once the text is positioned correctly click on the Format Bibliograhpy icon in the EndNote toolbar to reformat the references.
