Strange citations in Word

Don't panic if the citations in your Word document suddenly start displaying in curly brackets,
e.g. {Smith, 2001 #8}

It just means that you have unformatted them by mistake. To solve the problem simply follow the steps in the earlier Format citations in Word post.

Format citations in Word

If when you insert a citation into a Word document it displays in curly brackets
e.g. {Smith, 2001 #8}
it just means that the automatic formatting option has been turned off. To turn it back on simply follow the steps below:
  • From the EndNote toolbar in Word, click on the Format Bibliography icon (3rd from the left)
  • Select the Instant Formatting tab
  • Select the Turn On instant formatting option, then click OK.

Your citations should automatically format themselves and any further citations that you add will appear as normal.
