Problems with the Coventry University Harvard Style

It seems that the Coventry University Harvard Style is not available in some PC labs on campus. Unfortunately I don't have a complete list of which labs may be affected. So far, I have been made aware of labs in Armstrong Siddeley and the Jaguar Building. If you come across this problem please let me know and I will get it fixed as soon as possible.

Merging EndNote libraries

It is possible to merge two separate EndNote libraries into one single library. You can do this with two libraries created in EndNote X, or merge a library created in an older version of the EndNote software with your new EndNote X library.

  • Open the EndNote Library that you want to put all your references into.
  • Click on File > Import.
  • Click on the Choose File button and find the Library that you want to import. Click on OK.
  • Under Import Options choose EndNote Library from the list.
  • Under Duplicates choose whether you want to import all the references, or whether you want EndNote to check for and discard any duplicates.
  • Under Text Translation choose No translation from the list.
  • Click on Import.

Once the references have copied across, click on References > Show all references to view your complete Library.

EndNote Web workbook

It is now possible to access a simplified version of EndNote to use from off-campus, as long as you have access to the Internet.

A workbook is available from the Library website (http://www.coventry.ac.uk/endnote) to help you get started using EndNote Web.

Please Note: The Coventry University Harvard Style is not available within EndNote Web. You will need to bring the final version of your Word document onto campus and use the main software to format your bibliography if you need to use the Coventry style.

Mass editing of references

It is possible to edit a number of references at the same time e.g. if you wanted to add a common keyword to a set of references.

EndNote will perform the ‘Edit’ on all the visible references in your library. If you want to make changes to a limited number of references you will need to search for these:
  • Click on References > Search References
  • Use the search fields to search for the references you want to change. These should now appear in your main EndNote library window (the rest of your references remain ‘hidden’).

  • Click on References > Change and Move Fields
  • Select which field you want to alter using the drop down menu
  • Choose where you want the change to appear e.g. after field’s text if you want to add an extra keyword
  • Type your text in the box to the right, then click on OK.

A message will appear to confirm how many references are going to be altered.

Click on References > Show All References to view your complete library again.
